Welcome to Shrob ou Shouf Fountain

Shrob ou Shouf Fountain

The fountain known as Chrob ou Chouf, or Shrob ou Shouf in the Marrakech medina was built during the reign of the Saadian sultan Ahmed el Mansour (1578 – 1603). It is one of the most beautiful fountains in the Marrakech medina, although there isn’t actually a fountain, just a simple tap. The wooden crown is carved from cedar wood in the form of a honeycomb and over this is a roof of green tiles. There is an Andalusian inscription on the lintel inviting people to “chrob ou chouf” which translates to “drink and look”. The Chrob ou Chouf fountain was recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985. It’s located close to the Musée de l’Art de Vivre, the Medersa Ben Youssef and just a few minutes walk from our Marrakech Riad.
